Permits for additions in Howard County
Additions need a building permit from Howard County's Department of Inspections, Licenses and Permits (DILP), with footing, framing, insulation and final inspections.
In Columbia, exterior changes like additions may also need your village Architectural Committee's approval, usually 2 to 4 weeks. In the Ellicott City and Lawyers Hill historic districts, the Historic Preservation Commission must issue a Certificate of Approval first.

Common questions
Who actually does the work?
An independently owned contractor licensed by the Maryland Home Improvement Commission. TBG makes the introduction; it does not perform or sell the work.
Does it cost me anything?
No. Matching is free to homeowners. TBG is paid by its partner contractors.
How do I check a contractor's license?
Every partner shows their MHIC number, which you can look up on the Maryland Department of Labor site. Contractors must also show it on their contracts, trucks and ads.
What happens after I submit?
We review your request and connect you with one partner who covers your area and your type of project. They contact you to schedule a site visit and a written quote.
